Press Release Regarding The Humanitarian Aid To Pakistan , 08.06.2009

With the previous press release dated 25 May 2009, it was already made public that, in order to contribute to the alleviation of the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Pakistan, Turkey had handed over a consignment of humanitarian assistance comprising of 10 tonnes of medicine and medical supplies. That press release also stated that our humanitarian assistance to Pakistan would continue.

A Turkish military aircraft dispatched last week another consignment of humanitarian assistance composed of 10 tonnes of food items, kitchen utensils and hygiene kits, in order to support our Pakistani brothers and sisters who are suffering as a result of the humanitarian crisis.

Furthermore, the Government has decided to donate 10 million US Dollars to provide further assistance to the Pakistani Government in its hour of difficulty. This amount will be handed over to the Pakistani authorities during the official visit of Foreign Minister H.E. Ahmet Davutoğlu to Pakistan on 9-11 June 2009.

Turkey’s immediate humanitarian response to crisis in Pakistan indicates our increasing sensitivity to the consequences of humanitarian crises taking place anywhere in the world and our solidarity with those people who are negatively affected by them. It is at the same time a natural manifestation of our excellent bilateral relations with friendly and brotherly Pakistan.
