Press Release Regarding The Election Result , 18.05.2010
On 16 May 2010, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq (IHEC) announced the completion of the recounting process of the votes casted in Baghdad during the general elections of 7 March 2010; which commenced as a result of objections towards the initial election results. According to the announcement made by IHEC, counting errors were detected only in three thousand of the approximately two million votes recounted; bringing no change in the number of seats secured by various coalitions in Baghdad. Turkey wishes that this development will expedite the processes of certification of the election results by the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq and formation of an effective and inclusive government which will resolve the fundamental problems of Iraq.
On the other hand, we are following with concern the bombing attacks which took place in various cities in Iraq, particularly in Baghdad, during last week; claiming hundreds of Iraqi lives. We strongly condemn these terrorist attacks and extend our condolences to the people of Iraq. We believe that those who aim to drag Iraq country back to a spiral of violence, will be failed by the people of Iraq.
